Author's Note: I recently read up to volume 5 of this manga, and I decided to contribute to the fandom by writing this one-shot. This is my first time writing for Hokenshitsu no Shinigami, so I hope you enjoy it!
Thank-You, Sensei!
Itsuhito Hades, school nurse for Tokofushi middle school, stared at the box on his desk like he'd never seen anything like it before.
And he hadn't, not really.
The box itself wasn't anything out of the ordinary, save for being wrapped in bright blue wrapping paper with a large bow on top of it, but it might as well have been a llama for all Hades-sensei was used to seeing such a thing on his desk.
While he was staring at the present (because what else could it be?), the pale haired man noticed a card was slipped beneath the bow and partially concealed. Feeling a slight amount of trepidation, he reached out and plucked the card from its resting place, silently reading the words written there.
"Sensei, we noticed that you've been having a tough week, so we all thought you could use some cheering up! We all hope you like it!"
The names of Ashitaba, Kaburagi, Fuji, and Hanamaki were signed beneath the card, and Hades sniffled to keep the moisture forming in his eyes from falling down his cheeks. The fact that his favorite students had cared enough to get him a present, let alone notice that he had been having a bad week…!
It was true, byouma had been popping up more often than usual in the last week, and he had been kept busy trying to stop all of them before they did too much damage. He had been running around so much, in fact, that more often than not he had had to leave the running of the infirmary to Fuji when the blond had been there.
Thankfully, nothing serious had happened while the lazy teen had been in charge.
Hades-sensei reverently untied the bow and carefully removed the wrapping paper – without tearing it – revealing the brown cardboard box underneath. As he opened the closed flaps of the box, a pleasant scent wafted out of the package.
The pale, golden-eyed man sniffed curiously, looking inside the now opened box with wide eyes. There, inside the box, was a plate of cookies, still warm if the rich scent coming from them was any indication.
Gently picking one from the top and taking a bite, the school nurse almost cried in joy as the cookie (chocolate chip, one of his favorite kinds!) nearly melted inside his mouth. He had to wonder if they were homemade or if the kids had bought them from somewhere. Either way, he decided, he would ask them and either find out where they bought them or get the recipe so he could try making his own.
Unnoticed, several tears fell from his eyes as he continued contently munching on the cookies, smiling happily at his students' thoughtfulness.
Author's Note: I know, I kind of checked out there at the end, but I'm happy with how this one-shot ended. Please read and review! As always, constructive criticism is welcome!
