Mourning the Dead

Disclaimer: I do not own anything to do with Harry Potter. I do own Phoenix. I own the song used in this, "The Cry of the Soldier's Moon".

A/N: This is going to be really short, but this idea popped into my head, and it isn't often that I get a good one, so this was too good to pass up. The song used in this, my friend Nytemare and I wrote. I thought it was kind of fitting in this.

I'm sorry ma'am

But your soldier won't be coming home

he died bravely I'm sorry ma'am but he's gone

I stood upon the battle field, a lone figure standing there all alone. I wore black, my brown hair pulled up in a high ponytail. Surveying the death and destruction, I began to walk through the pile of bodies, looking for survivors, and mourning the my fallen comrades.

The Cry of a lady

over the full moon

crying for the soldier

that won't be coming home

Coming upon the body of my long time friend, I knelt by his side. "Phoenix?" he whispered coughing up blood. "Shhh, I'm afraid you don't have long." I told him. "I know Phoenix. Is it over?" he asked. "Yes, Lightning. You can rest in peace." I replied. "You did it. You finally defeated him."

He marched off to war,

fighting for the freedom he worked so hard for

He died bravely for his country

to give us a life worth living for

"I'm sorry Phoenix, I have to go." he said to me. "It's okay, Lightening." "Goodbye Phoenix." Taking one last breath he was gone. "We will meet again old friend."

The cry of a soldier

over the full moon

Crying for his lady

'cause he wont be coming home.

Shifting my position, so that I was kneeling upon one knee, I gently closed his eyes. Placing my hands across my chest, I began the ancient burial ritual. Holding my palms face up, I began to chant. "Eeh thti webn ilre mtel. Efi lre iler tfan ielp oepy htni ojee, rfeb tirips yhtte L." (Let thy spirit be free, join thy people in after life. Let Merlin be with thee. Read it backwards.) A bright white light began to surround the body, until a ball lay between my hands. Throwing it up in the air, I used the ancient magic to push it into the sky. I watched as a new star joined the others in the sky, quickly followed by others greeting it. I knew that Lightening was with his parents, and lost friends now. I stood, and walked back to the edge of the battle field. "Let Merlin be with thee, on thy next great adventure, Lightening." I said before I disappeared in a bright flash of white light.

A/N: well that's the end. I hope you liked it. I had problems writing it, because I wasn't sure how to word it so it didn't sound religious. I am not trying to force religion on anyone, but I figured that they need a way to mourn the dead, as we do.
