AN: Whee! It's a Fiyessa…. enough said. ;O

While he danced with Galinda Upland, Fiyero Tiggular was thinking of another girl, one in a chair. Unfortunately, both he and she had dates to attend to, or in the girl's case, a date attending to her.

"Boq, what's in this punch?" asked Nessa.

"Lemons, and melons, and pears," he answered.

Oh, my, thought Nessa, and then nodded her head, replying, "It's sweet, just like you. Thanks for taking me here. It's beautiful, and I'm glad to be your date." However, she only half-meant the last part. While she had been happy to be asked out, she would have preferred someone else.

"Who's that?" asked Fiyero, pointing at Elphaba to draw Galinda's attention away from him for a minute. While she was distracted, he looked over at Nessa, who's green-eyed gaze was trained on Elphaba.

Galinda followed Fiyero's hand. "Don't stare at her, Fiyero!" said Galinda. Then as she went forward onto the dance floor to join Elphaba, Fiyero went off to the side where Boq and Nessa were still chatting.

----

After Galinda and Elphaba had gone off to their room and Boq to his, Fiyero and Nessa were left alone together.

"Mind helping me back to my room, Master Fiyero?" asked Nessa.

"Not at all, Miss Nessarose," said Fiyero, grabbing the handles of the chair and pushing it forward.

As they walked together (or in Nessa's case, rolled), they talked of many things, like their schedules, which neither of them liked very much. They talked about how they enjoyed the company of their friends, like Galinda and Boq, whom they thought were kind-hearted people. They even, on occasion, talked about Elphaba.

"Even though she's cold-hearted and distant sometimes, she's still a good person. I know it," said Nessa.

Even though Fiyero didn't know what to say about some of the things Nessa was talking about, and even though he was also more entranced by her beauty, he listened to her and responded when it was appropriate.

When they finally arrived at Nessa's room, it was obvious that they had taken the long way.

"Thanks for taking me to my room, Fiyero. I had a great time."

"It was no trouble, Miss Nessa. I had a swankified time too."

"Well, um, goodnight, Fiyero," said Nessa, starting to roll away. Fiyero grabbed the handles of her chair and turned her back around to face him.

Then, as they stared at each other, they moved slowly closer. Their lips almost touching, Nessa pulled away suddenly, just as Fiyero whispered, "I love you, Nessa." Both jumped in surprise.

"What's wrong, Nessa?"

Nessa pointed behind them where Galinda and Elphaba were standing. Oh, sweet Oz, thought Nessa. How was she going to explain this to her over-protective sister?

"Oh, Elphaba. I didn't see you there. Uh…. what's up?" Clearly, Nessa was about as good at lying as Galinda was at studying.

"Fiyero, I think it'd be best if you left," said the green girl, practically burning a hole in his skin with her glare. If looks could kill, he'd already be dead five times over.

"Right." He said, slowly backing away from the extremely annoyed Elphaba, who continued to glare at him until he'd left the area completely.

"ELPHABA! What did you do that for?" screamed Nessa, her shimmering green eyes brimming with tears.

"I did it to protect you, Nessie. You'll understand in the future," said Elphaba, sighing and wheeling her sister inside.

"No, I'll never understand your judgment, Elphaba," said Nessa, retching herself out of her sister's grasp, and going inside her room. Once inside, she started to sob.

----

Meanwhile, Fiyero sat in his room thinking about what had just happened. What have I done? He thought.

He sighed and slipped into bed thinking about the brief kiss he had shared with Nessa. If I had known it would end like this, I never would have told you.
