Prologue
I silently hid in a tree with an arrow nock and my bow at full draw waiting for my ally Spirit to come leading my target to an ambush. A howl came from below, I looked down to see my large black wolf companion pointing with his nose towards my back. I turned around quickly, getting ready to take the target out in one blow.
"Wait what is that?" I heard two targets coming instead of one, I felt a chill in the air. I lowered my bow and put the arrow I had back in my quiver. I slowly reached my Saxe and throwing knifes on my sides and jumped down from the tree, as soon as my feet touch the ground I threw both knives up towards the branch I was standing on. Spirit crouched and started to growl.
My knives were thrown back at me out of nowhere,
"I believe those are yours," a deep, low voice said from behind.
I cannot believe I let my guard down. I ran towards the tree and, started to run up it, Spirit ran towards the bushes. Once I got to a steady branch I drew my bow and aimed towards the intruder. The intruder was tall, broad shouldered, wore a green cape, and was armed with a cross bow. "I know where you are," he stared at my hiding spot.
"Okay there's one, now where is the second?" I looked around seeing no sign. WHACK!, I heard Spirit wine and saw him flung onto the ground, a larger, bald man with a club came into view. "Come out or the puppy gets hurt," the bald man yelled.
I jumped back down and stood looking at the caped man. "Drop the bow." He demanded. I put the bow and quiver down. "What can I do?" I looked for my knives and, saw them at the feet of the bald man. The bald man came up to me with rope and I gave a weak smile and jumped onto his shoulders. The caped man aimed his cross bow and shot it, with a slight turn on the bald man's shoulders he fell, and the arrow hit a nearby branch.
I ran for my knives and threw the throwing knife at the caped man, he fell with a thud and started to moan. The bald man ran towards me swinging his club, I gently dodged each strike. Then he cornered me at a tree he swung one more time from the side.
I dropped the Saxe knife and blocked the club with both hands.
with little force I pushed the club back, making the large man loose his balance. I whistled and Spirit jumped on him from the back, I moved out of the way as he fell against the tree.
I picked up the Saxe knife then I stabbed him in the side with it. "Who are you?" he groaned. I looked at him with no emotion on my face.
"I am Jace, and I am a ranger."
