Rivaille glanced apathetically at the locked drawer of his oak table. Like everything else inside the diminutive office, it was immaculate, and sublimely cleaned.
Inside the drawer, there were hundreds of badges, The Wings of Freedom. Four new ones were added to the collection, four new ones that will always linger at the back of Levi's mind.
As sunlight streamed inside from the open window, Levi couldn't help but reminisce about his past squad. The birds chirping outside faintly reminded him if the chatter that his team mates would bring, and the courtyard seemed empty without them. Life seemed empty without them.
He remembered the days with his squad, knowing deep inside that it was all just a game. A game played with life, death, and time.
How long would it take for humanity to cease to exist?
His world had shattered when his hand-picked squad had fallen to the Female Titan, and the small pieces of him he had rebuilt broke again.
What if Eren transformed?
What if I had stayed with the rest of the members?
What if we had never gone on that expedition?
Life is filled with 'what ifs'. Those little questions will slowly kill you from inside.
Levi Rivaille was Humanity's Strongest Soldier, and to live up to that title, he had to push aside his own emotions, and worry about the lives of others.
He had built up an impenetrable wall he couldn't afford to let down, but in the end, it would be what will break him.
Break him beyond repair.
A/N: A short little drabble.
