This is a poem I wrote (I am going to make it into a story) about what
would have happened if the Argentinean never fell through his roof. It is
how the whole story started anyway. Or.what if the duke never forgot his
hat? Hmmm..What if.?
The Argentineans Fall
I came to live a penniless existence
And I wondered how it would be.
I thought of writing a story, for instance
But a plot I could not see.
The Bohemians believed in four things
Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love.
They loved life and all the happiness it brings.
But the answer to my problem came from above.
I was sitting down when the Argentinean fell
I never knew what I was about to get into.
My poetry is all they wanted to sell
But first Satine had to see what I could do.
I met this young girl and felt affection for her
But the problem was she thought I was the Duke.
And he was not a very kind Sir.
We had to hide our love and never let it show
But I got the job to write Spectcular Spectacular
And our love just started to grow
There are no words for it in a vancular.
But there was a darker side
Something I could not see
There was something she had to hide
Even hide from me.
The Duke was after her and all she could offer
For one night she had to leave me all alone.
And that night all I could think about was her.
But she knew true love and came to my home.
"I couldn't do it." She said. "I love you."
I just held her in my arms and said it was okay.
Our love was on fire, bold and true.
But there was just one thing she didn't say.
Zidler told her she was going to die
She had a consumtion that would soon take her life
And to me she had to lie.
From then on I lived with pain and strife.
She told me she didn't love me
And with the Duke she would stay.
I knew it could be true but there was only one way to see.
I had to find out what she really meant to say.
So on opening night I went behind the curtain
And with money in my hands I offered to pay.
Did she love me or not, I had to know for certain.
She only had to sing "Come what May."
As I was about to leave I heard her say
"Come back to me and forgive everything."
And that ''I will love you til my dying day."
Little did I know what the future would bring.
As she coughed and gasped for air
She told be to be strong.
I then knew that life wasn't fair
But to her I just sang our song.
I wonder about life
And all it has to bring.
I wondered about the strife
But "Come what May" I sing.
But thing that I wonder most of all
Is what would my life be like if the Argentinean didn't fall?
