She had lost her husband. She had lost her kingdom. What else could she lose? The answer was simple; her son.
Cimorene knew she had a duty to her kingdom, her husband, and even her son himself. He deserved a father and it was up to her to train him and keep him safe until he had one again.
Well, she had done her best. She taught him how to use a sword, to use dragon magic, and courtesy, which was the only way to survive in the Enchanted Forest. But she wasn't just training him to save his father—she was also training him to one day become the King.
Cimorene watched Daystar leave and swallowed back the lump in her throat. He would find Morwen and the witch would help him as much as she could. The only problem was if he could survive until then.
She wished she could go with him. She wished she would help him and be the first to see her husband again after so many years, but she couldn't, and that knowledge still hurt her even so many years after everything she held dear to—apart from her son, and now even he was leaving her—had been taken.
But she would stay strong; for her husband, her son, and her people.
