Prologue

Every star in the sky is a different world, some just a few minutes of travel apart, and others, a year. Every time a star flickers and goes out, someone loses a home, a family, and a world. Sometimes, someone manages to protect the world, but most of the time, when the star flickers, it just disappears. When the world disappears, people relocate to another, and when that world is gone, they move again. It's one of the cycles of life.

Ping. Ping. Ping.

Long, busy fingers paused briefly from flying over the keyboard, only to call out, "Sir!"

An elderly man came, walking leisurely. "What is it this time?"

He looked at the screen, the light illuminating his scars and wrinkles. He grinned, the faintest brush of maniacal glee ghosting over his eyes.

"Call the Director. We've detected it."

While a woman ran off to complete the order, he pulled back his sleeve to look at the bandages wrapped around his wrist.

He sighed.

"The time has come. A path to Paradise or Hell. All of which is decided by the Kingdom."

A lone music box played its tune on a pedestal, the melody bouncing off of he large and empty room.

The room suddenly started to shake, which do not do anything to disrupt the tune or the placement of the music box. The walls and floor disintegrated, leaving behind the box and lone pedestal to float, suspended in darkness.

On the box was a motif of vaguely shaped like a heart and four stars of varying colors: rich orange, calm blue, vivid green, and a pale pink.

The box's lid was suddenly shut by a hand, sound cutting of mid-note. Cold amber eyes stared down at the box.

"Finally, it can be quiet. One less thing to plague me," he murmured.

He looked upwards and sat on the pedestal, turning the box over in his hands.

"So… It has started. Make your move, Princess."
