"Dark Is Night, So What Am I?"

Chapter 1

This city I live in is filled with creeps and thugs, evil men and some people who make the wrong choices. It's my duty to stop the pollution of crime isn't it? They say sometimes good people do bad things, and bad people do good things. Which am I? For that matter, what am I? Playboy by day, vigilante by night? Is this the life I live? What will happen when I grow old and can no longer be the voice of the oppressed? So many questions, but I have no answers. I need to focus on the task at hand.

Batman sat perched like a gargoyle on top of a building, thinking long and hard. He was actually there to wait and find a notorious drug kingpen by the name of Arthur Urklyne. Urklyn was in the top 5 of the most powerful heroine dealers in Gotham. Two of the top five were already in jail thanks to the masked crusader.

"Is it safe?" asked a older-looking, twitchy drug addict.

"Of course, Mr. Louis. Everything is fine. We are in a secure locations, and my men have scoped out the place to make sure there are no unwanted visitors," replied a very clean-looking, possibly rich man. This man's business caused him to have to speak with certain business ventures personally, one of which was this very drug addict. This drug addict was not a regular junkie though, but rather the CEO of a well renowned company called Rx-cess. Rx-cess is a drug company that supplies and distributes drugs to many of the pharmacies and doctors offices in Gotham, as well as free medication to AIDs victims in Africa.

I can see Urklyne. Once he pulls out the packages, I will strike. Any second now… Wait. Is that Greg? Yes! That's Greg Louis. We do business with his company. What is he doing here? Please tell me he's not the big-time player in this operation. I can't believe this. I thought he was my friend. Damn, there's the packages. There's no way out of this for him. It is my duty to protect and- I can't do this to him. He knew my father. He's a class act. I just… I don't know what to do.

Men started lifting packages off of trucks, which also blocked entering or exiting the dirty alleyway. As the men brought the packages to their well-off boss, Louis started to pull an old piece of cloth from his pocket. At first it appeared to be a handkerchief but was too large. Instead, it was a mask. The men dropped the packages and tried to run but were blocked off from their own trucks. Batman saw the men run but could not see the mask. He had no idea what was about to occur…
