She couldn't help but watch him as he talked; he was a new recruit, as Erwin had told her, that Erwin himself brought into the Survey Corps. She wasn't told much else about him, just to try her best in dealing with him.
Commander Erwin, a man she respected more than anything, had brought her squad to a meeting, informing them of the arrival of three new soldiers he recruited. He demanded they be welcomed as openly as possible, and shown the ranks as any other soldier would. He did ask, however, that they try their best to give these new soldiers time to find their place within the Corps.

It didn't take her long to figure out why Erwin had asked her to try her best to be patient. The boy was abrasive, and within a week after joining the Corps he was already speaking down to the other soldiers of her team, his two friends standing behind him as support. It irritated her, seeing them jeer at her fellow team members, but she did her best to respect her Commander's wishes and be as cordial as possible.
The girl, Isabel, wasn't bad, and the two of them got along rather well. They shared beds in the cabins where they slept, and made small talk before they slept.
The two boys, however, were something else. They both poked fun at members of their own team, which kept almost everyone either on edge or hostile around them. The rest tried their best to ignore them, respecting their Commander's orders.
So she kept her distance, only getting herself involved with them when need be, during training.
The shortest one, Levi, started saying something rude to a boy who Isabel had seemingly taken a liking to, as the dark-haired girl grabbed the short boy's arm, telling him to stop.
"Yeah, little guy, listen to your girlfriend and back off." Levi's target then said, causing a small laugh to escape the mouth of the girl watching them.

Levi's steel-gray eyes darted to her, glaring. "What are you laughing at, bug eyes? Mind your business."
The comment sparked an angry fire in the girl, who had felt self-conscious about her large, round, brown eyes her entire life.
She stood up from where she sat, a calm expression on her face, her lips traced with a small smile. She made her way over to where Levi stood, and he raised an eyebrow. She was shorter than him; not by much, but enough to make her seem less intimidating to the boy.
Everyone who knew her, however, watched with wide eyes, knowing something was coming.

Levi was the only one who wasn't expecting her to punch him to the floor.
