It was a quiet moment at the office. The boys went to lunch together, leaving Sally alone. She was relaxing on the couch with her shoes off.

Mel came in. He had a paper. "Hi, Sally. Here's some recommendations on the show from Alan."

"Just put them on Dick's desk, thanks."

"OK. He did this. "Where are the guys?"

"They went to lunch together."

"Ah, no Buddy!"

"Mel, you shouldn't be so upset about him."

"I shouldn't? He insults me every day!"

"He doesn't really mean it."

"H doesn't?"

"No. That's just the way he is. Actually, he would rather be insulting Alan, but if he did that he'd get fired."

Mel nodded. "That I can see!"

"He likes to keep his creative juices flowing, and one way he does this is by constantly saying one-liners."

"Against me?"

"Against everything! Deep down, he actually likes you."

"He does?"

"Mel, remember when Alan fired you? Buddy came to your aid and helped you get your job back."

He nodded. "Yeah, that's true."

"So don't be so upset by his insults. It's all in fun."

"Well, I guess you're right. But I wish he wouldn't insult me on my lack of hair!"

"I'll talk with him about that."

"Thanks, Sally." He looked at her feet. "I notice you often walk around the office with your shoes off."

"I feel more comfortable barefooted. Do you disapprove?"

"No, I don't mind. I was just curious. Well, I've got to go. Thanks for your advice about Buddy."

"No problem, Mel."

He left.
