There was a knock on the door to the bedroom. Jo looked up from where she perched on the end of the bed, back straightened, and muttered a light, "Come in." Alex walked in, his head bowed. He approached her like a nervous animal, closing the door quietly behind him as if to stall the inevitable discussion that was to take place.

Jo couldn't handle the tension. She just threw her head back and sighed, stifling an incredulous bout of laughter. "Stop looking at me like that, Alex. You're not in trouble. I just … " She paused and closed her eyes, trying to find words to translate her feelings. "I just don't feel it."

She could feel the vibration in the room and instantly realized how she was being interpreted. Quickly, she turned to see his pale face. "No! I didn't mean us, Alex — I meant I don't feel this is my home. Even though you said it was. Even though you explained." Jo sighed out loud, frustrated with herself. She felt like such a burden. Like a whiny girlfriend who could never be happy. But she couldn't help how she felt. She wanted him all to herself. Was that such a selfish thing to feel?

After all these years of having literally no one, it was a hard task to share the best thing that had ever happened to her.

"Jo," Alex said quietly, taking a seat beside her on the bed. His arm soon found its way around her as he spoke directly into her ear. "What can I do to make you feel it?"

The brunette stubbornly shook her had as one single tear rolled down her cheek. "I don't know. Just - it feels sometimes like I'm not in the same house as you. Or the same room. You never put your arm around me like this in the living room when Meredith or Callie or Cristina are here. I love that you have such a history under this roof with your friends, but I guess I just feel sort of out of the loop. Like I don't belong."

She couldn't help but smile as she felt Alex lean closer, nose pressing against her cheek in that soft, tender way he always did to comfort her. It always made her heart melt.

"I thought that's what you wanted.. " he mumbled regretfully. She could tell by his voice that he was being sincere. "I thought you wouldn't want me to touch you in front of them. Thought you wanted to stay professional in their eyes." He took a deep breath, voice quivering in her ear with emotion. "Jo, you do belong.

"Do you have any idea how hard it's been for me to keep my hands off you? Jo, you changed my life. You've made me the happiest man I've been in a long time. You don't make me feel like a jerk every time I screw up, and you accept me for the idiot I am. All I want to do is kiss you to show my friends what you mean to me, but I just thought you'd pull away.. I'm sorry.."

Jo turned to look at him, and her hand came out to cup his jaw, His eyes were raw with sincerity, and she could practically feel the love he had for her pouring from his breath. "Oh, Alex," she hitched. "You are an idiot. But so am I. Please, ignore everything I ever said to make you feel like you had to hold back. I'm your girlfriend and I want you to be able to show the whole world."

He kissed her quickly before pulling back to give her a devilish smirk. Jo barely had the chance to say, 'What?' suspiciously before he had her pinned against the mattress, shrieking with laughter.
