"I hate sunsets," said Mai in her usual deadpan voice.
"Me too," Zuko agreed. "I don't see what people find so romantic about them."
Mai shrugged. "I think it's all the color. The Fire Nation's colors should be black and gray. Red and gold are so…gaudy." There was a note of disgust in her voice.
"I agree. I'll see what I can do to have our nation's colors changed." Zuko said, placing an arm around her affectionately.
Mai looked at him, taken aback. "You'd do that? For me?"
The young Firebender smirked at her. "I am the Fire Lord. I can do anything."
Mai leaned into his shoulder. "That's…sweet of you."
Zuko shrugged. "It's nothing." Was that a hint of a blush she was seeing?
A ghost of a smile passed over Mai's features. "You know, I may hate a lot of things in this world, but there's one thing that I don't hate."
"What's that?" Asked Zuko.
"I don't hate you. In fact…I almost, kind of like you." There was the faintest hint of color in her cheeks.
"I almost, kind of like you too," he replied, his own blush deepening.
And with that, they kissed.
