This is something I'm starting purely because I ran out of ideas on my others, hope this clears the writer's block...enjoy.
As far as he understood the situation, it was only a temporary thing; nothing permanent. Not that he would mind, however, it was just Mother and himself there; nothing wrong with the new addition, but his mother had explained to him that this was solely work related and would not be permanent. His mother had only told him a few details about the child they were fostering for the time being. Well, she wasn't exactly a child to him, she was 17 years old, almost a year older than he was; but her mind wasn't right. That's what mother had told him "Her mind isn't right", he had come to find out she had suffered a severe traumatic experience not long ago and her mind reverted back to the equivalent of that of a child between the ages of seven and nine. She wouldn't speak and barely ate, as far as he had found out, she was completely dependent on others. He didn't have any knowledge on what the traumatic experience was, but his mother avoided the topic like it were the plague and he had just contracted it. One of his mother's friends who worked for social services told her about the child, and asked her to take her in for a few weeks, a couple months at most, while they try to track down another home for her. Of course she melted at the first sight of her; which didn't surprise him at all. So here he stood in the living room, waiting for his mother to bring home Anya. He wasn't entirely sure how to act around her, he hadn't been around any younger kids, let alone someone that had the mind of a younger kid. Indeed, he did feel a sort of pity toward her; it must be horrible to be trapped like that; in one's own mind. Yet it still roused the curiosity of what exactly did happen to her. He tried her name in every search engine and news articles he could find, but nothing came up; not surprising since he only had a first name, age and general location. Knowing absolutely nothing and no experience dealing with such things as this, all he had to do was stand in the living room for a few more moments and meet her directly.
So...there's my little prologue, a little short but that's okay, since it's just the opener. More to come later!
