The doorbell rang.
Percy was alone at home, trying to complete an email to his mother, when he heard it. It scared him, but he was too tough to admit it. He wasn't expecting anybody but the pizza man, so he didn't bother to check who it was. When he finally stood up to answer the door, he got the shock of his life.
Standing on his front doorstep was no other than his beautiful ex-girlfriend Annabeth Chase. She had on nothing but a smile (and clothes, of course) but she was still pretty. "Percy, I love you. I'm sorry. Can we get back together?"
She walked inside, swaying slightly on her huge high-heeled shoes. "Kiss me now."
"No, Annabeth, I think you'd better leave."
"Percy..." she complained. "We define love. Now kiss me, please."
"No, you need to go," Percy declared, leading her out the door. Ignoring her pleads, he shut the door.
The late-night news reports were always interesting.
Percy watched them every night, having nothing better to do. Since the pizza never came, he was a bit bored. Until he saw the next story.
"Drunk driver found near apartment complex," the man announced. Percy was about to turn away, when the body of the driver came onto the screen.
It was Annabeth.
He had thought something was up with her.
Her flawed logic had seemed a bit off.
At that moment, Percy realized he still loved Annabeth Chase.
And he never got to say goodbye.
