Because this pairing is incredibly canon in my eyes.

"Hey," Mello greeted Near dispassionately as he walked into the room. "What movie are they watching now?" He jerked his thumb in the direction of the room adjacent to the one they were now occupying.
"Gone with the Wind," came the emotionless reply.
"Tch, last week's movie was better. The Italian Job." Mello grinned up at the ceiling, reflecting on the heist movie he had seen. "Those guys had crime down to an exact science. If I could do that some day… heck, if I could meet someone who could do that…" he trailed off.
"Be careful what you wish for, it might come true" Near was plodding along, as always, on a puzzle. This puzzle was completely monochromatic, seemingly impossible.
Mello rolled his eyes.
"You shouldn't be so quick to write off Gone with the Wind. It's a classic. War… corruption… betrayal…" Near's eyes quickly flickered up to Mello's face "Intrigue…"
Mello felt something like a knot form near his stomach. What was that supposed to mean? No… analyzing it six ways from Sunday never helped.
"You haven't completely sold me on this movie…"
"A city catches on fire," said Near, his attention refocused on the puzzle, with just a bit of a sardonic hint in his voice.
"I don't know why I waste my time with you," Mello stalked out of the room, nonetheless feeling a pair of eyes follow him out.

Okay, just something I wrote after eating chocolate and thus thinking of Mello and Near. Hope you liked!
