Rose ran frantically from the end of the long sandy beach and back again where she had started an hour earlier. She stopped every five seconds and stood absolutely still, trying to find a sound, a smell, anything. She needed a sign, a sign that would show her he hadn't left her completely.
She loved him, and he knew. Or she thought he knew, there was something about that smile of his. He knew a bit more than he said he did. Of course he did. He was a Time Lord.

"Argh" she sighed and turned to the three human beings standing a bit away from her.
Her mother looked at her with worry in her eyes.
Her Rose. Following a voice in her head looking for someone she could never have, someone she could never be with.
Mickey.. He knew he couldn't help her the way she needed.
Her father, looking at his wife, not knowing how to react.
They all stared at the beautiful blonde girl who ran along the beach looking for a rift in the dimension.
They hoped she would see a small glimpse of him, enough to make her feel a little better. But eventually that would make her feel worse when he left in the end.

"Come on! I heard you! I know I heard you!" Rose mumbled to herself. She had heard something. A familiar voice which told her to stand back. A few seconds ago.
"Rose"
There it was again! Rose reacted immediately and moved left just in time.
The tall brown haired man appeared in front of her.
"I-its y-you" Rose began and reached out a hand. "Can I?" she asked and looked at The Doctor
"No touching, I'm still just an image"
"How much time do we have?"
"2 minutes.."
"I.. I don't know what to say" Rose tried to keep the tears from running down her cheeks. It was too late.
"Rose, don't cry. Even thou this is the last time I will ever see you I don't feel sad, I feel lucky. Its been a great honor to get to know you, Rose Tyler. And-"
He was interrupted by loud sobs coming from the girl in front of him.
"I love you!" Rose cried in between sobs and looked up at him, meeting his gaze.
The Doctor reached out a hand.
Their fingers almost touched, Rose wished they would meet. But if she touched the image of him he could disappear.
"Rose Tyler it has always been you! I love you.."
The image of The Doctor began to crack in front of Rose's eyes. She sank down in the sand and buried her head in her hands.

The Doctor stood once again in the middle of the TARDIS trying to keep himself together. He couldn't break down now. Rose was gone, she was never coming back. She loved him and he loved her. But still they couldn't be together. Time and dimensions are cruel things. He wished for a way to bring her back. Oh how he had wished for that, so many times.
He sat down on the floor and looked around.
His vision became blurry when the tears escaped his eyes and fell down his cheeks.
"Rose Tyler.."
