Snapshot I started weeks ago. Eleven has found his family.
There were times that the Doctor doubted the universe. He had seen the darkest crevices of the most hateful minds and the most devastating acts of cruelty on the largest scales. He had seen entire races vanish through genocide and entire galaxies engulfed in angry black holes. He had done terrible things. The universe was teeming with atrocities and demons that words could never describe…
But there were also spectacular miracles.
He watched with worshiping eyes as Rory held the little child aloft above Amy. Their own eyes were so full of rapture, so full of ecstasy and delight. He could not help but share their joy; the tiny, beautiful child sucking in its first breaths of life was a pure, shining light of blessing upon their family.
Family…that was just the word, yes.
Rory turned to the viewing window, a smile of immeasurable elation on his lips and dancing in his eyes. The Doctor offered a thumbs-up, and the glow about the man seemed to double. Amy looked from the child to the Doctor, and then up into Rory's eyes. Nothing, nothing but love passed between those eyes.
The Doctor watched, feeling his wistful hearts swell. He had for so long stood on the outside of the universe, watching the families of time and space enjoy their happy, menial, incredible lives.
Family…
That was what it felt like. The dilation of his pupils when he saw them, the heat in the back of his throat when he thought about them, the universes he would tear to shreds to keep them safe…
The happiness in Rory and Amy's eyes.
The innocence of that tiny bundle in Rory's arms.
That was the Doctor's universe.
Don't forget to review!
XOXO,
Bella
