i was re-watching the zane and jo scenes in "up in the air", and i really found the cupcake moments cute. i couldn't help myself in pushing the cuteness a little bit.
i'm also a bit devasted at the latest news on the show so i'm a little needy now for fanfic - mine and any one else's.
as ever, i don't own eureka, or any of it's characters - but i am and will always be, a fan.
a cupcake is a cupcake
Jo smiles as she finds coffee and a muffin on her office table at GD. For the past couple of mornings, Zane has been leaving these "treats" on her table.
And right on cue…"Mornin' Cupcake!"
Zane pops his head in the doorway of Jo's office. He always seemed to know when she arrives at the office.
Jo looks up and her smile broadens. She can't help it. Zane's efforts at "being friends" was nothing short of adorable. And melting her resolve inch by inch.
She had to admit, these morning visits make her day.
As well as the after-office tutorials where they spend at least an hour or two studying for the Astraeous mission at Café Diem. Then over dinner they just talk, as if getting to know each other bit by bit was part of the lesson plan.
Three times a week they are together the whole day for field training. Seeing Zane do physical activities gets her - flushed - to put it mildly.
And on the days they need to be at GD, they've gotten into the habit of having lunch together. Either at his lab or her office.
Yup, pretty much he makes her day – practically everyday of the week. Maybe except Sundays when they take a break. They spend that day apart, but that doesn't mean she doesn't think about him.
"Hey Zane" she returns the greeting.
He sits on the edge of her desk. "So, where will lunch be today?"
Jo thinks awhile and says "You wanna have lunch outside for a change? The weather's nice. Let's grab take-outs from Vince and have lunch by the park bench."
Zane liked idea. "Great! Lemme know when you'll be ready to go"
He stands up to leave "Enjoy your cupcake" he says with that melt-your-heart-out smile
Jo picks it up "You know, this isn't really a cupcake Zane. It's a muffin."
"So? It's all depends on how you see things. People may have certain expectations of a muffin, but when they bite into it and it turns out to be a cupcake, they can be pleasantly surprised"
She laughs (yes, she's been laughing a lot lately). "Is this another one of your analogies – like the felon and the grunt with a gun?"
He feigns innocence "I have no idea what you're talking about."
She laughs again (see, laughing a lot). "Whatever Zane. Now go, I have work to do."
Zane walks to the door. "Ok. See you later for lunch…Cupcake!" Even without seeing his face, Jo knew he had a mischievous grin on it
She shouts out to his retreating back "Muffin!"
He stops and turns "If you insist. Later…Muffin!"
