Summary: There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
Tetsuya understood the pull of the book for young girls. As priestesses they could find power and love. If they succeeded in summoning their celestial warriors and obtaining the right artifacts they could summon their god who would grant them three wishes. If only it were so easy.
Tetsuya had read the book. He watched it everyday as the adventures of Miaka and Yui were written in it. He had investigated Einosuke Okuda,, the translator of " The Universe of the Four Gods". He and Keisuke had talked to Suzuno O-sugi, the priestess of Byakko.
He had learned the frightening truth. Takiko Okuda, the priestess of Genbu learned that once she made the third wish, she would sacrificed to Genbu. She had gone back into the book knowing that she would likely be eaten in order to save Hokkan.
The priestess of Byakko who had fallen in love with a character in the book was told by Byakko that he could not grant her final wish to allow them to live together. She had died recently an old lonely woman pining for her lost love.
Yui and Miaka would soon face these choices. Once Yui made her final wish Seiriyu would absorb her. Tetsuya loved Yui. He could not let that happen. Miaka needed to know that her wish to be with Tamahome could never be granted. .
That was the catch. That was no free lunch. There was a price to be paid by the women who summoned the four gods. Two women had already suffered this fate. It was up to Tetsuya and Keisuke to let the girls know what awaited them at the end of their quests and endeavor to avert the disastrous results of their wishes which were staring them in the face
