A/N: Okay, this is the last Civil Wars song fic that I'm posting tonight, promise. I still have an idea for another one for a song by Ellie Goulding but I'm not sure if I'll publish it tonight because it's late and I'm tired. This is to the song "20 Years" by The Civil Wars. And again, I want to thank them for the flood of inspiration. Hope you like it. Also from Nick's POV.

There's a note underneath your front door that I wrote twenty years ago. Yellow paper and a faded picture and a secret in an envelope.

I slipped a note under your front door. It's the note that I wrote you twenty years ago when I found out you were engaged to him. The paper's yellow now. All that's inside is a faded picture of us from the day we met and a secret that's hidden in the envelope.

There's no reasons, no excuses. There's no secondhand alibis, just some black ink on some blue lines and a shadow you won't recognize.

There are no reasons and no excuses as to why I let you go. I don't have any secret alibis or reasons except to tell you that I love you. I did then and I do now. All that's under the door is some black ink on some blue lines and a shadow that you won't recognize because you don't even know who you are anymore. You lost yourself when you married him.

In the meantime I'll be waiting for twenty years, twenty more I'll be praying for redemption and your note underneath my door.

While you keep on living, pretending you're happy, I'll be waiting. I've prepared myself to wait for twenty years because that's how long it took for me to give this to you. For twenty years I'll be praying that you'll forgive me and that you'll slip a note underneath my door.
