Fairy Tales and Truth by Marauder

Through the window dusk was falling, and Sirius lit the candles. He was alone with Remus in their dormitory; Peter was at tutoring, and James was down in the common room with Lily.

As Sirius extinguished the match, he heard Remus sigh. He turned to see his lover bent over a book, his forehead creased and his mouth clenched.

Sirius laid one hand on Remus's shoulder. "What is it, Moony?"

"Muggle Studies," said Remus, not looking up.

"Yeah," said Sirius, rolling his eyes. The recent unit was despised by most of the class. "I wish we were finished with Muggle child development. If I have to read another fairy tale, I'm going to scream. Keeping children in cages - it sounds like something my cousin Bellatrix would do." He realized he was being selfish and stopped. "What is it about Muggle Studies that bothers you?"

"Little Red Riding Hood." Remus set down his quill and turned in his seat to face Sirius. "Does the whole world see wolves as horrible and malicious?"

"I don't," said Sirius immediately. "You know I don't. I think you're - well, you're my Moony. You're one of the most sensitive, smart, and gorgeous people I've ever met."

Remus smiled at last, a bit impishly. "Gorgeous?" His eyes danced mischievously, teasing.

"Of course," said Sirius, his voice firm. He walked over to the chair and reached out one hand to stroke Remus's face. "Your eyes, your skin..." He paused. "And those soft, soft lips - "

Remus's hand rested over Sirius's, over the hand of a boy who had changed so much in one year. He pulled Sirius closer so that their faces nearly touched.

"All the better to - "

The parchment fluttered as the bed curtains snapped shut.
