Title: Just Abraham
Word Count: 477
Summary: That's what he needs – just Abraham.
"I knew you were going to go soon."
Baker turns and sure enough, it's Abraham standing behind him. Baker feels a pang of guilt that he missed Abe's death, but that doesn't matter, now both of them are dead and on this weird road that looks like a glorified version of the Walk.
He briefly wonders if Garraty got him that lead-lined coffin and rolls his eyes at his own materialistic tendencies. Here he is, feeling great, with Abraham and he's worried about coffins.
"Is there any way we can watch the rest of the Walk?" he asks. Abraham nods and points at his feet.
"Right through the road. Just Garraty and Stebbins now," he says, biting his lower lip. Baker nods. He'd figured it would end between those two. "So, you wanna go join the others?"
Baker shakes his head and Abe raises an eyebrow. He'd never say it out loud, but Baker just wants Abraham right now; no Parker, Pearson, McVries… just him and Abraham sounds perfect.
Abraham has never been one for awkward silences, however, and he starts talking again. "Good choice – I mean, for some reason Parker keeps dragging Barkovitch along with the rest of us. Sometimes literally dragging." He snorts and brushes hair away from his face. "So… want to go for a walk?"
Baker rolls his eyes and glances down at Garraty and Stebbins again. They're still walking. He wonders how long he was standing alone up here before Abraham found him. He suspects it was a while.
He must be taking too long, because Abraham grabs his hand and pulls him. Baker doesn't expect this and he stumbles, but of course Abraham's there to catch him. Abraham doesn't let go of his hand, and they settle into a nice, slow pace that would've given them a warning.
After what seems like miles, they come to a nice little place with a pond and a tree that looks like it would be fantastic to climb on.
Abraham apparently thinks the same thing, because he grins and scales the tree, ending up on a branch hanging over the water. Baker follows, his childhood coming back in waves. Once he's up and sitting by Abraham he feels complete, even more so once Abraham grabs his hand. They smile at each other, and Baker can feel his face heating up.
It's like the tree can feel this too, because the next thing Baker knows, the branch has given out and they fall, Baker clutching a screeching Abraham, into the pool.
And then Abraham kisses Baker and his mind goes blank.
Abraham looks mortified, swallowing and backing up rapidly. All Baker can think is that he doesn't want Abraham to go.
So he grabs the other boy's hand and Abe just looks at him. Baker manages a smile.
Everything was going to be okay now.
I don't even know what this is. I can't write in present tense, I don't even know why I tried, I don't know how this got to what it is, but, whatever.
