Duck Duck Goose?

Rick watched as Lisa moved slightly less gracefully into the hanger of the newly constructed SDF-3. She had always been a confident and graceful woman. At least professionally. She had always carried a kind of elegance that went beyond the normal for any other woman around her. She was athletic and slender moving with purpose and economy. Never a wasted effort. In the early days of their relationship he had often felt clumsy around her. More like a love sick Labrador than a war hero flying ace. Poetry in motion in the air he had been more like a spastic chicken on the dance floor. How had she ever put up with him? He wondered some times.

As the years passed and they became comfortable with each other and even more deeply connected he began to be able to anticipate her moves and how her mind worked. It had been a seamless few years but today they had a hint a snag. He hadn't meant to stick his foot in his mouth. Boy, he really hadn't. But it had played to his sense of humor and had come out before he realized she wouldn't find it funny. At moment's like this he cursed the loss of his "big brother" all those years ago.

Roy you would have been the first to tell me to keep my big trap shut wouldnt you? He thought, watching as Lisa inspected the new line of fighters and made notes to her aide.

Nodding in sudden decision Rick moved quickly down from the observation deck and presented himself to his Admiral. As he stood saluting her, he noticed her aide shift slightly off to the side affording them some privacy.

Cold emerald eyes met contrite blue ones, "Yes, Captain?" Her voice was frosty and military edged. Nope, he wasnt forgiven yet!

Straightening even further Rick spoke, "Admiral, I wanted to apologize for the earlier comment I made comparing you the winged species of avian wild life with web feet." He snapped out in standing at attention.

Lisa shook her head and felt the familiar stutter in her heart when it came to her fly boy, "At ease Mister. Just remember it's never smart to compare you're pregnant fiancé to a duck!"
