"One day you'll need the Avengers to come together and we won't be able to." Natasha said, glaring slightly at the U.N. Council in front of her.
"Because of the Accords, we are now divided. 'United we stand, divided we fall.'" She smirked. "How appropriate." The Council looked at her with raised eyebrows.
"How so?" One of the younger ones asked. Natasha raised an eyebrow at them.
"When we're united we stood against any threats that we needed to. Yes there were some casualties, and we have lost sleep over them. But you still need us. Because we were divided, we fell."
"Just because of one little fight-" Ross started but was cut off by Natasha.
"Don't call it a fight when you know it's a war!" Natasha said, raising her voice and placing her palms on the table. Her fingers inched towards the gun at her waist but she refrained.
"Secretary Ross, tell me. Did you think about what would happen if these Accords didn't work?" She asked. "About what would happen if some of us decided not to sign?"
"I did not. I expected the Avengers to think about the civilians an innocents. But no. Captain Rogers was being selfish." Natasha doubled over in an uncharacteristic fit of laughter.
"Steve Rogers, selfish? You must be joking Secretary." She said, straightening. "He didn't sign because he was worried the council wouldn't let us go where needed." Natasha looked at the Council in the eye one last time. "If you need the Avengers, you'll know where to find us. But will you know how to get us to work together again?" She asked, then left the room, leaving the Council staring at the pot she had left.
