cats and girls and spaceships...missing scene
no one really knows what gene & jim said on the bridge after the girl didn't show up for the second date. how had gene known to be there on the bridge for jim? what did they say to each other? i will try to fill in the gaps. " Hey old man, we sure do appreciate your help. " Gene said, thanking the machanic who ran the spaceport's fix-it shop.
" No problem. Like I told your young friend, we don't see a lot of ships like yours. " The old man stated, rubbing his chin. " Maybe you could help me a little. I worked on a small yellow grappler ship yesterday. The pilot was a small girl. She paid in full. Along with her ship, she asked me to fix this wristwatch. I wanted to give it to her now that's it's working. Have you seen her? "
" I don't know, we all split up after we turned our ship over to you for repairs. If you have a picture, maybe I could ask my crew before we leave. " Gene offered.
The old man flipped through his past security feed & brought up a picture. It was of a small girl wearing a white sari. Her eyes were filled with a happiness that Gene couldn't quite peg. The girl was walking into a familiar yellow ship.
" That looks like the girl I saw Jim with at the park yesterday. " Suzuka observed as she walked up behind Gene.
" That must have been his...date. " Gene breathed in disbelief at this twist of fate he was witnessing. " And that yellow grappler was the one we encountered today. "
The old man shrugged & went back to his work. Suzuka closed her eyes to say a silent prayer for the young girl & Jim. Gene's eyes filled with tears as the realization hit him. Jim had helped kill his first love. Taking another look at the young girl's face, Gene tossed on his coat & went to the bridge. Jim would need him there.
Jim's head hung low. Jim didn't know whether to cry or scream. The girl. They hadn't known each other for long, but it felt so right when he was with her. How could he expect a romance like this to work out? They were both just stopping at this spaceport. Was she playing with him, or had her parents made her leave early? Jim's thoughts were interrupted when he saw that he had walked past Gene on the bridge. Jim stopped & turned around.
" Girls are hard things to figure out. " Gene said, holding back his emotions. " But I know when the right one comes along, you'll know it, Jim. "
" Yeah, I got a good start. " Jim said, joining Gene along the railing. " It's not the best, but it's a start. "
