Disclaimer: J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson own them…or something like that.
The stone was cold compared to the warmth of his skin as he enveloped her hands in his.
"Take it," He choked.
She shook her head. "I cannot…"
He gripped her hands tighter. "Please, Tauriel."
She closed her eyes, leaning down to rest her cheek against his. If only things were different. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and moved to look at him…their faces still and so, so close.
Just once their lips brushed together…quick and shaky and soft as a whisper.
A gasp caught in the back of Kili's throat as he tore himself away from her. He picked up his bow and didn't look back.
Tauriel couldn't help herself. She called out to him.
He stopped and turned; his gaze was already far away.
"Don't do anything reckless."
And then there it was…that sparkle…that smirk. He bowed to her once and was gone.
Tauriel clutched the stone in her hand, not knowing whether to be filled with hope or dread.
If only…
