After The Storm

Disclaimer: I do not own any characters from/related to LOST. Title and song are from Mumford and Son's After the Storm.

A/N: Takes place during the series finale with Jack's last moments.

And after the storm
I run and run as the rains come
And I look up, I look up
on my knees and out of luck
I look up

Night has always pushed up day
You must know life to see decay
But I won't rot, I won't rot
Not this mind and not this heart
I won't rot

Jack laid there in the bamboo jungle alone. He knew that this was it, this was the end. He saved who he could, saved the island, and was praying that Kate has listened and got on that plane. As he laid there he had thought about their time on the island, much of it still ambiguous, and some not. But none of that mattered now, he did what he was supposed to do and now he was at his peace, he only wished that it wouldn't end like this, if he could still be with Kate.

And I took you by the hand
And we stood tall
And remembered our own land
What we lived for

As felt his blood seeping out from his wound, he knew he'd be slipping out of consciousness soon. Surprisingly he was joined by Vincent who placed himself next to him, not wanting him to be alone. Smiling at him, Jack was flooded with memories, some real, some not, some mostly his hopes and dreams.

He saw his mother, his father, his friends, everyone on the island, and course he saw Kate. He saw when they first met, her first smile at him, her laugh, her grin, her smirk, her annoyed look, her anger, he saw everything and loved her. He saw what their wedding would have been like. Nothing too crazy, just close friends and family on the beach, with Kate in her dress looking beautiful under the suns rays.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears
Get over your hill and see what you find there
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair

And now I cling to what I knew
I saw exactly what was true
But oh no more
That's why I hold
That's why I hold with all I have
That's why I hold

He saw Kate and his mother bonding over his old baby pictures and swapping stories. He saw his grandfather always playfully flirting with Kate, each of these bringing a smile to his face.

Then he saw Kate sitting in front of a piano with a small child in her lap. The child couldn't be any older than 3, sitting on Kate's lap the child proceeded to band away on the keys making music, or noise one might say, with their tiny fingers. The little boy had dark brown hair and the greenest eyes, as Jack could see as the little one turned to face Kate, was the perfect combination of both of them.

I will die alone and be left there
Well I guess I'll just go home
Oh God knows where
Because death is just so full and mine so small
Well I'm scared of what's behind and what's before

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears
Get over your hill and see what you find there
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair

It was a site Jack wished had come true. Reaching his law few moments he wondered where he'd go next. He hoped that he would be able to see Kate again, but know this island he couldn't be sure about anything. Looking up into the sky he saw the plane fly above him. He smiled. She was safe. Knowing that she was off this god forbidden place he could move on. With a simple laugh and joy in his eyes, his closed them for one last time.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears
Get over your hill and see what you find there
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair
