They we're driving, he asked him a question. He had made many mistakes in his life but there was one that stood above them all.

He had told her to stay close but somehow they had gotten separated. He held his hands tightly around the cold metal object that he was carrying. Taking each step with caution, he quietly walked around the dark warehouse listening for the slightest sound. His trained eyes scanned the surroundings but saw nothing but darkness. He whispered her name as he walked down the hallway. He heard grunting, she was calling his name. Rushing down he turned the corner and saw two figures fighting on the stairwell. Able to make out the figures shadows he aimed at the larger figure, he had a clear shot. His finger gently pulled back on the trigger but something happened. The larger figure moved pulling the smaller figure in front of him as a shield. The smaller figure crumpled to the floor landing on the stairs. The larger figure stood above looking down.

"You shot her." He said before turning around and running off. Time seemed to freeze as he ran up the steps two at a time. He knelt down and saw the damage he had done. The bullet had ripped through her chest and now it seemed an endless river of blood was coming from her.

"Bones." He whispered, trying to hold back his emotions as his finger tips gently touched her blood soaked chest.

"I-I didn't mean to I- everything will be okay." He told her taking off his jacket and placing it upon the wound. He could feel the warm blood seeping through onto his hands.

"Booth." He heard her say, looking down he could still see her piercing blue eyes in the dim yellow light. His chocolate brown eyes peered into hers. Her eyes were looking for comfort, for protection. She was looking at him to take the pain away to save her.

"S-some partner you a-are." She told him with a small smile playing on her lips.

"It'll be okay." He said holding back his tears, he could hear sirens off in the distance someone had called for help.

"See bones you're going to be fine." He told her stroking her hair.

"Booth I don't feel good."

Her eyes had become glassy and fogged over, she was losing the battle to keep them open.

"Bones stay with me." He told her noticing her eyes were drifting close. He shook her gently and she regained focus.

"Booth I'm sorry for being stubborn." She said and he could feel her body shake under him.

"Don't talk like that." She shook her head and gasped in pain but continued on.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner that I -

"Stop." He commanded.

"You're going to be all right."

She looked at him one more time before closing her eyes.

"Temperance!" He shook her but she did not wake.

"Temperance wake up now." He shook her more roughly and her head rolled to the side. He placed his two fingers on her neck and felt nothing. His heart broke.

"No. Temperance you are not leaving me." He placed his hands on her chest and pushed down.

"Do you hear me? You c-can't." His voice cracked as the emotions broke through.

"I love you, you can't leave." But he knew that she gone and lifted his hands off her. The paramedics had arrived, they told him they were sorry for his lost. They covered her face with a sheet and took her from him, leaving him in the dark hallway his hands stained with her blood.

"So dad what was your worst mistake?" His son asked again.

"I couldn't save the person I loved."
