Morishige sat alone in the school library. The clock on the wall said 6pm so most of the students had gone home by now. He preferred to be alone. His essay on a western musical was due in for tomorrow and he decided he`d work better if he was by himself. Recently he`d been having trouble paying attention in class. He would look over at Mayu`s desk and start to day dream about her. After one particularly dirty dream, involving him, Mayu, a bed, 4 sets of handcuffs and some whipped cream, he came to the conclusion that he must be in love with her. Most people thought he was unpleasant to be around because he was so cynical, but Mayu wasn't most people. She saw him in a different light. She was upbeat and positive and could see through his stoic exterior.

The door at the other end of the room opened and Morishige turned around to see who it was. Mayu stood in the doorway with a big grin plastered on her face.
"Hey Shig." She said, smiling.
"Evening Mayu" he replied. Mayu walked over to where he was working and sat down next to him. She looked over at him and beamed. Morishige gave a weak, strained smile and continued his work. Mayu thought that asking him some questions might spark a conversation with him. She felt that recently they hadn't been talking as much as they used to do. Their conversations in class were short and brief, their nightly phone calls had completely stopped and the only time they ever properly spoke was in drama club when they were performing their lines. This saddened Mayu as she`d recently discovered that she was in love with him. Most people thought that he was an odd ball because of how cynical he was but she could see through his stoic exterior and see that deep down he wasn't that bad.

"What musical are you doing your essay on?" she asked
"Blood Brothers." He replied not looking up from his book. Mayu waited for him to ask her a question in return. Silence. She decided to try again.
"Who wrote it?"
"Wily Russell." She waited again. Silence. She was getting nowhere. Desperate times called for desperate measures.
"Shig?"
"Hmm?" he replied, still not looking up from his book. Mayu leant forward on her chair and kissed him lightly on the cheek. She leant back on her chair and smiled.
'That would be sure to get his attention' she thought. He remained motionless.
'Damn' she thought. 'I guess the only thing I can do now is confess to him. Morishige, however, was now far less focused. The girl he had adored had just kissed him and he didn't even flinch.
'Holy shit, she kissed me.' he thought. 'She really kissed me. I guess now would be the best time to confess.'
"Mayu."
"Morishige." They both spoke in unison.
"Sorry, you first." He said.
"Uhh,r-right." stuttered Mayu, standing up from her chair.
"Morishige, I…I…I-I love you." Silence. Mayu`s heart dropped. Morishige muttered something.
"What?" asked Mayu.
"I…-ve…too." replied Morishige quietly.
"I can`t hear you." said Mayu. Morishige jumped up from his chair.
"I said I love you too!" he shouted. His voice echoed around the empty library. Mayu just stared at him; her eyes filled with love and shock in equal measure. When he sat down Mayu put her arms round him and pulled him into a hug.
"You`re so odd." She said. Morishige smiled and kissed the top of her head.
"You wouldn't have me any other way." He said. "Now, I need to finish my essay." He looked down at his book and went back to writing. Mayu, who still had her head resting on her now boyfriend`s shoulder, felt content.
'Nothing could tear us apart,' she thought. 'Not even death.'
