Just a short oneshot to celebrate Pi Day. The last official one of the century (Because it's 3.1415… (3/14/15))
"Elphie, guess what!"
"What? Glinda, I'm trying to study."
Glinda huffed as she set her bags on her desk and went over to her green roommate. She snatched the book away from her roommate. "That can wait!"
"Hey!" Elphaba reached for her book, but Glinda held it just out of her grasp. "Glinda, I have a math test tomorrow!"
"I am so glad you said that, Elphie! Do you know what today is?"
"March fourteenth."
"Exactly! It's… Pie day!" Glinda smiled as she took a cherry pie out of the plastic bag on her arm. "The café was giving them away for free. Isn't this great? A special day where we get to eat pie!"
Elphaba smiled faintly. "Glin, that's not what it means."
"Of course it is, Elphie. Why else would they call it pie day?"
"They don't. It's Pi Day."
"There's a difference?"
"Yes."
"Well, differences, shmifferences. Let's eat!"
"It's pi day because pi is 3.14, rounded off, of course. Today is the third month of the year, March, and the fourteenth day."
"So, no pie?" the blonde pouted.
Elphaba smiled. "Of course we can have some pie."
Giggling, Glinda took out a plastic knife and cut up the pie and shared it with her friend.
"This is good," Elphaba smiled, taking another bite.
"I knew you would like it. And the best part is, we don't even have to wait until next March fourteenth! We can have pie everyday!"
"That's very healthy, Glin."
"Oh, shush, Elphie, before you ruin the moment."
Elphaba put her hands up in mock surrender and took another bite of pie. Glinda finished hers and reached over to take some of Elphaba's.
"Hey!" Elphaba said as she pulled her pie away. "This is mine."
"Share, Elphie. Pwease?" Glinda asked, batting her eyelashes and sticking out her bottom lip.
Elphaba sighed as she lowered the pie and held the fork to Glinda's mouth. "Open up."
Glinda giggled and opened her mouth and Elphaba fed the pie to her. The blonde sat up and made herself comfortable sitting across from her roommate as she was spoon-fed the pie.
"Best pie day ever!" Glinda smiled as they finished the pie.
Elphaba smiled and licked the cherry filling from her fingers. "I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, Glin. Happy pi day."
"Happy pie day, Elphie."
So, a special Pi Day 'Nia' for you. (Well, technically, it's not a 'Nia' because it's not a reference, but the same rules apply.) The question is: How does the sentence below help you remember pi?
How I wish I could calculate pie.
I'll PM you if you get the correct answer and win the 'Nia' (and even if you don't, because it's really funny and I will pass this along for everyone to enjoy). When my math teacher asked us this, I got it immediately and she was surprised because it took her a while to figure it out.
