The Village Blacksmith

Journal Entry

April 26th, 2017

Dear Journal,

I'm writing this entry today in order to talk about my father, the village blacksmith. My mother had passed away a few years ago, and since then my father has been taking care of my brothers and me without any help. It is sometimes difficult to raise at least three children on your own, but my father is a strong man. I look up to my father for so many reasons, one being that he held himself together all these years, having lost the love of his life. All I want in life is to be as strong, loyal, responsible, and hardworking as he. Not only is my dad's character beautiful, but he also has large muscles, given from all the time spent repairing and building objects with heavy iron. Though, he is loved by villagers not for his looks, but for his outstanding character.

I personally, feel as if people enjoy the traits in his personality that you will not find in most people. For example, my father is willing to do whatever it takes to get to church even if it is his only time off. Most people, however, would just take the time to rest if they had been working all week. His determination to serve God and dedication to his job are two things the villagers find admirable about him. While my father remains strong throughout the death of my mother, he still does not hesitate to show his emotions. A good example is that when he hears me sing in church, his eyes become teary. Whenever I ask him why he always replies with the same answer. He tells me that I just remind him of my mother so much, that it feels as if she's on earth again. (It hurts my dear heart to see my father like this. He's such a well-intentioned being who doesn't deserve to lose his soulmate.)

There are many instances where my father has put himself before others. He speaks with the village children and tries to inspire them. He always tries to be a good role model for the children around him and would sometimes sing songs and read stories for them. I know that he is loyal and responsible because he works almost every single day just to provide for my brothers and me, while still trying to spend as much time with us as he can. I truly appreciate my father for trying his best with us. For this reason, none of us would even dare to disappoint or disobey him. Another thing I adore about my father is that he has an honest heart. He would not lie to a soul and none of the villagers a dime. Even when times are tough, he would never borrow from anyone, even if they insisted.

There has never been a Sunday morning that we have not attended church. Even if he had to work, he'd clear out his entire schedule just to attend church. There is a chance that he fears God more than the village priest! My father always carries a Bible with him and spends idle nights reading his favorite chapter, Revelations. Every morning, before he goes to work and we go to school, he makes us pray and sing songs unto the Lord. In his spare time, he teaches village orphans about God. My father taught his family and the villagers many things. Because of him, villagers are kind and accepting towards each other, despite the differences. He taught everyone to be happier and fight life's challenges. Because of the things my father teaches the villagers, barely anyone is unemployed, and everyone works harder. But despite all this, he molded me into a strong, hardworking person. Because of him, I try my best to help and inspire others.
