"Spock! Good heavens! Settle down!

All across the bridge of the Enterprise, heads swiveled. Not much usually happened during second watch, when the senior crew was off duty. But here was something different.

The woman's voice burst over the intercom again. "No. Get off me. Not now! Spock, what's gotten into you?"

By now they all had identified her and dared not look at one another. Nervous laughter lurked too near the surface. Everyone knew that Nyota Uhura had a special relationship with the second-in-command. But until now, they had not imagined just how special.

Uhura was at it again. "Hey, stop that—it tickles! No, no, no. Not my ear." Something banged, and then, "You better run! Just wait till I get my hands on you."

What an image it presented. Frozen in their seats, they smiled to themselves, eagerly listening for the next installment. It had been an especially boring shift.

Now Uhura was out of breath. "Oh, Spock—for pity sake! Do you want a good swat?"

In the center seat, Lieutenant Dan Jarvis slowly came out of his shock. What to do? He had been left in charge, so the responsibility fell squarely upon his young shoulders. He could not very well sit here and let the show continue, although…perhaps…just a moment or two more…

Whack! They all clearly heard it. And snickered.

Struggling for control, Jarvis abruptly pressed a button beside the command chair, cleared his throat, and said, "Bridge to Uhura. Uh…you might want to disengage your intercom."

In her cabin on deck five, Nyota froze in the midst of the chase. Aloud she wondered, "Now how in the world did that thing get switched on?"

Quickly silencing the desktop unit, she turned and skewered the light of her life with a fierce look. "You did it, with all your crazy rough-housing! Oh, you're really in trouble now. What if they figured out that you're in here? Then what would happen?"

The object of her displeasure sank down on her bed and visibly wilted, his purple fur flattening over his haunches.

"Spogg!" Nyota scolded. "You naughty palomid. You're going back in your cage."

As she approached her illegal pet, he batted his big eyes at her and warbled such a heart-melting apology that she swept Spoggins into her arms and hugged him tight.
