They return to DC to find a small entourage waiting for them at the airport. They return to find that Angela is three months pregnant, with Hodgins soon to be twin daughters, who will do everything together. They return to find that Sweets has indeed moved on, and found himself a fiancée in Carter. They return to find that Cam is engaged to be married with Hacker. Zack is there as well, to her surprise. When she asks why he's there, he tells her that he's been released, and is ready (if she'd like him back,) to return to work at the Jeffersonian. She's slightly disappointed that he isn't there.
Until she remembers their promise. A year from today. And she's off. She gives a quick explanation to Angela, consisting of only one word, "Booth," and Angela nods, shooing the other woman out of the airport, telling her that she'll get her luggage and take it back to her apartment for her. She gives her best friend a thankful look and runs out of the airport. Outside, she hails a cab to the Mall. She nearly bounces in her seat the entire ride, and when the cabbie stops and asks conversationally why she's so excited, she simply replies, "It's been a year." And hops out. She walks along the reflecting pool, using every ounce of willpower she has to not run.
But when she sees him. Oh, when she sees him sitting there, on their bench, two cups of coffee sitting beside him, her willpower diminishes. She stops and when he looks up, a wide grin splits his face. And he stands and her willpower is gone. Completely gone. She runs to him, throws herself into his waiting arms, and buries her face in his shoulder while he wraps his arms around her.
"I missed you!" she sobs into him. She can feel him grinning against her neck as he rubs circles in her back and strokes her hair.
"I missed you too, Bones." He says. And when they pull away, she can see the love in his eyes, and her willpower dies again. Everything she's been building up for a year comes pouring out. So she pulls him closer and plants a soft kiss on his lips. He doesn't allow her to pull away, as he wraps his arms tighter around her and presses her body flush against his. Her hands wrap around his neck, and they deepen the kiss. They only break apart when someone throws a pretzel at them. They look up to see her welcoming committee from the airport, Carter, Sweets, Cam, Hacker, and Angela grinning while Hodgins points to Zack (Who looks very confused and innocent) accusingly and grins insensitively.
Everyone knows Hodgins threw the pretzel.
