You can't always get what you want.
Freddie knew that was true.
He has wanted Carly since forever. If he got everything he wanted, they'd be dating by now.
He wants Carly for her pretty eyes.
He wants her for her dark hair.
He wants her smile, her laugh, her personality, her imagination, her kindness.
But she didn't want him.
She told him that someday he'd find someone who wanted him as much he wanted them.
He didn't believe her.
Until the day he saw Sam at reception for their graduation, he had no idea what she meant.
He knew even if he didn't want Sam the way he wanted Carly, he needed Sam.
He needed her for her toughness.
He grew up with no father figure and an extremely feminine best friend. Sam was the one who toughened him up.
He needed her for her sarcasm.
He would be such a pansy without her.
He needed her strength, her bravery, her cunning, her underestimated softness.
He needed her to force him to stand up for himself.
He needed her to slap him around a bit to teach him to defend himself.
He needed her because she needed him.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need.
