A/N: The result of a challenge I set myself. I had to write a story for each of my fandoms, inspired by the next song that came up on my iPod. The theme to Band of Brothers came up for Merlin, and as Band of Brothers was about men bonded together by war, this came to mind right away. I do hope you enjoy it, and it you've never seen Band of Brothers, can I just say that it is absolutely amazing in every way, and would humble any one of us.
This story is set at the end of Season 2 when Arthur calls for knights to ride out with him and fight the dragon – the first knights of the round table, lol.
Disclaimer: I own neither Merlin BBC nor Band of Brothers.
Theme to Band of Brothers
Arthur looked at the knights, a dozen brave men, who had agreed to lay down their lives with him. They were under no illusions, no one was coming home from this. And yet they had said they would come anyway, answered his plea to stand by his side. And they did not do it because he was their future king, or because they were under orders, Arthur knew that. They came out of loyalty, out of love. Some of these men he had trained with, some had trained him, and others still had been taught by his own hand. He had fought beside every one of them. They had seen battles, horrible things, killed men. Of the dozen, four owed him their lives, and he owed his own to two more. Arthur did not think anyone else could understand the bond that kind of life brought. These were not his men, not his servants or sworn fighters. These were his brothers, his family, his blood. They had proven a hundred times that they were worthy of that title. And this last time, this last battle, they would die by his side, as was right for those bonded together.
