Chapter 1

Denial

From the outside, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters appears to be a normal boarding school, located in New York. But from the inside, well that's a different story. The basketball court hid a jet beneath it, and even the old Victorian school housed dangerous experiments and highly advanced technology in its sub-basement.

The moon was full and the wind howled outside a young Asian girl's window. Jubilation Lee sat on her bed, knees held tight to her chest as a steady stream of tears fell down her cheeks. She sniffed, feeling helpless and small while her world fell around her ankles.

Everyone had been acting so strange since Jean's death. Scott was devastated, showing almost no interest in anything but finding Magneto, who he felt was at fault. Even Wolvie had become restless, unable to cope with even the smallest noise before heading to the Danger Room for hours at a time.

Jubilee's thoughts turned back to the previous week, when her Wolvie just couldn't take it anymore. Gambit had been arguing with Rogue, who turned to Logan for support. But Logan was still so unhinged from everything, that he hopped on his motorcycle and left without a word to her or the others.

Looking over at her desk, Jubilee saw her outfit laying on the chair; green shorts, yellow coat, pink top and sunglasses. Then without a second thought, she grabbed it, changing silently before grabbing one last thing from her desk. She held Wolvie's dog-tags tight in her fist as she slipped out of her door, tip toeing down the hall until she found her sneakers by the door. She didn't put them on until she had made it safely outside, where a noise made her jump.

Turning around, she was sure she saw nothing and slowly began to walk away, still facing the other way. Without warning, Jubilee walked right into someone, or something! She landed on the ground, igniting her fingers until she saw it's light reflect off the soft blue furred creature in front of her.

"Kurt!' she hissed with both fright and anger. "What do you think your doing here?" she demanded.

Nightcrawler disappeared with a faint pop, returning to sight right behind the fallen girl. He helped her up, and brushed her off before he spoke, a soft growl was detected in his voice.

"I could have asked you the same thing young one,' he murmured. 'Do you realize how much you would have worried us all if you hadn't said anything, and just left?"

Jubilee looked down at the ground, her eyes slowly began to swell with tears. Kurt looked over, his frown softened into a smile as he pulled her into a tight embrace. They held each other for a moment before Kurt whispered in her ear.

"I know what you need to do Jubilee,' he mumbled, holding her at arms length. 'So go out there and find them.'

She looked at him, wiped her tears and nodded. With the smallest turn of her body, she ran away from the school, the only thing that ran through her mind, was finding Logan, her Logan and bringing him back. She stopped once she reached the old hill, taking one last look at her beloved home and sent up one last message into the sky. With a small wink, she turned on her heel, running towards another adventure.

Kurt stood there, motionless, a smile plastered on his face. Without another word, he lowered his eyes, and disappeared back into the school. The sky above shone with a beautiful message.

'DON'T WORRY, WE'LL BOTH BE BACK SOON ELF.'
