A knock came at the door of the hotel room, Dean and Sam looking up from their laptops and exchanging twin glances of confusion before Sam stumbled out of bed, walking over to the door and stooping down to peer through the peephole before frowning, unlocking the door and opening it to let Castiel inside. The angel stared up at Sam for a few moments before walking inside and looking around, gesturing for Sam to close the door. "We need to talk."

"What? Is something wrong?"

"I believe I… I am being spied on."

Sam blinked, staring at him and then sitting down on his bed, watching the angel with a look of confusion on his face. "What? Why?"

Castiel frowned, opening his trenchcoat halfway and sliding his hand into one of the large pockets, picking out a pug puppy and holding it up. "I was followed by this thing. It attempted to bite me, and then it began making strange noises, as though it was speaking in tongues. I think it's one of Lucifer's spies."

Sam immediately began laughing, Castiel's look of confusion only increasing as he held the pug out, looking scared to be touching it at all. "Dean, Sam, it sounds like a hellhound. Is it dangerous?"

"It's a puppy, you moron," Dean said with a snort, shaking his head and getting up off the bed, taking the dog from Cas. "You just found it?"

"I was waiting for morning and it came up and growled at me," Castiel said uncertainly, watching the pug as it began licking at Dean's hand. "Why is it licking you?"

"That's what dogs do," Dean said, holding it back out towards Castiel. "You want it back?"

Cas took it uncertainly, Dean flopping back down on the bed and holding the pug at arm's length, staring at it. "Does it need a name?"

"Probably."

"I'll call it Dean."

Sam laughed, shaking his head, and Dean looked a little pissed before Castiel knelt down, setting the pug on the ground. It sat there obediently and Cas stared at it before abruptly flopping forward, resting his chin on his hands and staring at the puppy. There was a moment of silence and then the dog darted forward, licking Castiel on the nose and forcing a smile out of the angel, the man pulling the dog closer and burying his face against his back. "It makes me happy."

Sam set his computer down, sliding off the bed and sitting in between his and Dean's, reaching out to pet the puppy lightly. Soon enough, he was practically on top of Castiel, the two men playing with the animal, Cas smiling so hard it hurt; it seemed Jimmy had something of an affinity for dogs and it was definitely showing through Cas' actions. Sam grinned, sitting back and watching Cas before looking at Dean, who was watching the both of them with an arched eyebrow. "Cas, you actually look happy."

"I am happy," Castiel said, picking the pug up and cradling it like he had seen Sam do a few moments earlier. He looked at Dean, still smiling and holding onto the puppy. "I think Jimmy likes dogs, so I like dogs, too."

Sam grinned, ruffling Castiel's hair and leaning back, happy, for once, that they were getting a long overdue break. Castiel held onto the puppy tightly, leaning against Sam and looking up as Dean slipped off the bed, moving into the space between the beds and leaning forward, pressing his forehead to Castiel's and wrapping an arm around Sam, pulling him closer, into a hug. "It's good to see you happy, Cas."

Castiel nodded, smiling slightly and looking at Dean before letting the other man lean in further, kissing Dean gently on the mouth in return and barely glancing up as Sam leaned forward. They huddled together, the puppy wriggling in Cas' arms, and for the first time since setting foot on Earth, the angel was honestly happy.
