'As of August the 4th, all students of Blackquill Prep will attend Roselia School for Girls, following the merger of the two schools. Attached are your dormitory assignments and class schedule. Apologies for the inconvenience.'
Drew growled as he read the paper, his eyes narrowing. He had been in Blackquill Prep since he was 5, it was his home and now it would be pulled out from under him. He rubbed his forehead and read over his dormitory assignment and thanked God when he saw who he would be living with. Paul, at least he got to stay with his usual room mate. He hoped that Ash and Gary ended up in the same room.
Drew glanced quickly around before video-calling the guys. It rung a few times before Gary's face popped up. 'Guess you got the news?' Drew sighed and nodded.
'Yeah man. Arceus, why is your Gramps doing this?'
'I'll explain okay? Just.. wait for the other guys to-'
On cue Ash picked up, grinning like a maniac. 'HEY!' He shouted at the top of his voice.
'Ash for Arceus sake!' Gary growled 'Can't believe I have to room with you again!' Ash laughed and stuck his tongue out towards the camera.
'Come on Gare-Bear, you know you loooove me.' Paul choose this moment to join the conversation.
'What's the doofus so happy about?' He grumbled, leaning back tiredly.
'Yeah, Ash, why are you so happy?' Drew narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
Ash grinned and shook his head. 'Nothing... Just that Misty goes to that school..' he blushed and looked down.
'Oh, so we finally get to meet the mysterious Misty!' Gary teased.
'Yes b-but guys I haven't seen her for like 10 years so you gotta promise to keep it cool.' Drew and Paul nodded in agreement but Gary only smirked.
'No promises' he sang mockingly.
Drew waved his hands in front of the screen. 'Gary don't change the subject okay? Explain.'
'Yeah, now!' Paul sat up and growled. Paul had been at BP for as long as Drew. Neither of their families were particularly attentive and through their shared lives at the school they had found a family in each other. It struck Drew that Paul was probably more mad about this than he was. Gary had always been in between schools, though his Grandfather was the head of the school he had not been sent there until he was 13 and had already been expelled from 10 schools. Ash came at 15, only 2 years prior, after his father left. Despite the trauma, he was cheerful, and he and Gary became best friends instantly due to their joint love for mischief. The four were an inseparable group because of that school.
It seemed that only Ash was okay with its dissolution.
'Okay, okay.. Gramps said that we were on the verge of bankruptcy and Mr. Stone, the head of Roselia, offered to take in all of the students and take him on as Vice Principal.' Gary explained, his eyes closed in pain.
Drew lowered his head. 'So... We can't do anything?' he whispered pathetically.
Paul sighed 'Guess not.' Even Ash looked stricken. They breathed a collective sigh of resignation and began to make plans for meeting on the fourth. Their first day at Roselia...
Drew cried himself to sleep that night, and he didn't know it, but so too did his best friends.
The bus pulled up outside Roselia and Drew and Paul begrudgingly got off last. The entire journey was spent pulling at the uniforms and listening faintly to the other boys going on about all the hot chicks they hoped to meet. They didn't care. They just wanted out. Gary and Ash had arrived the day before with Gary's grandfather, and had told them the place was nice. Everything was so nice. Drew didn't miss the slight shake in Gary's voice when he said this. As soon as they had pulled there suitcases from the bus, a chipper voice sounded from behind them.
'Hi there!' It pipped. They turned to see a small girl with bobbed red hair and dull green eyes smiling at them. The smile dropped into a gaping O of surprise once she saw Drew. He sighed and bit his lip. Not again.
'What do you want?' Paul growled, obviously thinking the same as Drew.
'Ummm... Ah...' she stuttered.
'Spit it out' he said, voice tinged with annoyance. The girl shook from her stupor and threw on what he assumed she thought was a charming smile.
'My names Brianna, I'm one of the student guides, let me show you to your dorm.' She said. Paul gave Drew a tired look and Drew nodded weakly.
'Fine, here's the number' Brianna reached for the paper, brushing her head against his in a way that made Drew cringe. She examined it and then turned around, punching the air in a way that suggested she thought they couldn't see.
'Follow me' she said breezily. Drew and Paul did so with noticeably reluctance.
'Ta-da!' Their dorm room opened with a flick of Brianna's wrist. Drew and Paul tumbled through the door.
'Say, Mr. Drew, do you-' Paul slammed the door in her face. A squeal could be heard though muffled and Drew burst into smothered laughter. Paul smirked and walked towards the first bed he saw. He threw himself down on it and brought his hands to his face. Drew shook his head.
'No time to mope dude. We have to unpack and Gary and Ash are coming to get us for our first class soon.' Paul seemed to agree. They unpacked without a word and tried to steel themselves for their first class in this foreign land.
