"Katie and Trip are having a Christmas party-- just the four of us. I'm supposed to ask if you can make it."
Jen kept typing. "Can't. I'm busy with work."
"You can file reports in your sleep, Jen. And Katie's been looking forward to this-- I'm pretty sure you don't a woman who can lift a car over her head angry at you."
She frowned at her monitor. "They'll be fine without me."
"No, we won't." For the first time since Lucas had contacted her, she wished that it had a video linkup, because she had not been expecting that from Lucas.
"Jen, I know you've lost a lot. We just don't want to lose you, that's all."
She sighed heavily… and then turned off the monitor. "Tell Katie I'll be there in a bit." If someone as closed off as Lucas was starting to worry… maybe it was time to change things. After all, she didn't want to lose them, either.
