I wish
For the second that I watch the sky,
I wish that I could see a bird fly.
I know I am going to die,
It is not a question of where or when or even why.
.
For the moment I still have to think, before it may pass,
I wish I was dying with a brush, some paint, and a canvas.
I know this art will last less than a minute,
But the smile my soul will die with is infinite.
.
For the second that I watch the cloud,
I wish a single last speck of blue to be found.
I know that it could be my final wish,
Next to the river with the dead floating fish.
.
For the moment that I hear the last seconds ringing,
I wish that the world would not stop spinning.
I know that all that is living is dying,
And my eyes turn red from bitter crying.
.
For the second Iraq strikes USA with a nuclear weapon,
I wish from China to India I will not hear of one thereupon.
I know that it is both WWIII's beginning and end,
I hopelessly wish for another day to attend.
.
For that instant that the Earth starts to tremble,
I wish there will be a group hug as the survivors assemble.
I know that we will not forget racism or money,
However a final hug would be sweet as a spoonful of honey.
.
For the moment that the hydrogen bonds in DNA dissolve,
I wish that what's going on would be a puzzle I could solve.
I know there is nothing accomplishable left to wish for,
As I watch the end of all the blood and gore.
.
I am struggling to stand among the last of the last,
There is nowhere we can run, even jet – plane fast.
The Mayans, the Bible, the Indians, the Chinese are right,
Today was the last day the world saw the Sun's light.
