Narcosis

A/n: No, you have not fallen into some other universe. I'm updating again. I was challenged. I never say no to a decent challenge. So here's my N for the Dictionary Challenge. Kitty? It's your turn again.

"Odd? What's wrong with Ulrich?" The shorter boy simply inclined his head a little.

"Oh. I see." Jeremie sighed. "How long has he been like this, then." Odd made an unsure sound, groping for his cell phone.

"Like a hour and a half." He drop the device back to its rightful place beside him.

"Should we, I don't know, do something about it?" Jeremie sat down next to him, eyes still pinned on the brunette.

"Like?" He failed one arm at the motionless boy. "He's being quiet and non brooding. I don't see a problem with it."

"He's in a stupor, Odd."

"Hey! Don't call my best friend stupid, Einstein!" Jeremie stared down at him for a minute.

"I didn't call him -- you know what? Nevermind." He nudged Ulrich with his foot and the boy didn't so much as blink. He nudged him again and Ulrich swatted at his foot numbly, eyes unmoving. "He thinks I'm a mosquito," the genius said with a smirk.

"I can see it," Odd agreed.

"Don't you think she's going to find out? I mean, she'll probably be furious, and then they'll fight and that is always bad for all of us."

"You're just jealous that Aelita isn't, too."

"No I'm not."

"Yes you are."

"That's outrageous, Odd."

"Jealous."

"Not."

"Am."

"It's 'are', actually."

"See? You admit it." Jeremie stared at the boy in silence for a moment.

"We should do something before Yumi finds out," he reiterated.

"Yeah, yeah." Odd waved him off, searching his pockets for his ipod. "Save Romeo from himself. Good luck." Jeremie shook his head.

"Ulrich? Come out of it, Ulrich." He snapped his fingers by his face and was once again ignored. "Ulrich, Yumi's going to be pissed if she sees you staring like an idiot."

Nothing.

"She'll probably dump you."

Still nothing.

"Ulrich," he growled, waving his hand in front of his friend's face. "This is called narcosis you know. Being in a substance induced stupor? Narcosis." He sighed getting to his feet and walking over to the umbrella. He kicked at the piles of towels until he found what he was looking for- a green sandcastle bucket that had been discarded hours earlier. Bucket in hand, he walked down to where the tide was coming in.

"Hello, Jeremie," Aelita smiled. He smiled back politely.

"Hey, Jer," Yumi greeted, adjusting her sunglasses on her face. "What're you doing." The blonde filled the bucket with ocean water, balancing it on his hip as he faced the bikini clad girl.

"Oh, nothing really. Sand's just hot further up on the beach." The girl seemed to except this and smiled, tugging at the bottom of the tiny black bikini top. Jeremie gave her a half wave and then another to Aelita before heading back up to where their friends were sitting.

"What's that for?" Odd asked, removing one ear bud. Jeremie gave him a dry look before turning his attention back to Ulrich.

"Last chance, Ul," he warned. The boy didn't move. "Fine." He turned the bucket upside-down over his head. Ulrich's body jerk and he spluttered, hands frantically pushing his soaked hair out of his face.

"What! Jeremie! What was that for?" he demanded, glaring harshly at the blonde.

"Stop staring at Yumi." Ulrich gaped like a fish for a solid five seconds.

"I was not staring!"
