A one-shot for Konan and her origami talents. Pein makes an appearance and speaks more than one would guess he would.
The clouds grew more menacing as the day grew old. Konan quietly sat at the low table in a nearly empty room fiddling with a slip of white paper. The room felt peaceful and the only sound was the rustle of paper being folded intricately. Blue eyes caught a glimmer of light from the paper lantern off the silver metal of her ring. Slightly raising her right hand, Konan glanced at the ring on her middle finger with a silent sigh.
The door opened at that moment revealing the man behind it. Konan slightly acknowledged Pein before returning to her 'paperwork' as he crossed the room to place his parcel on the shelf. Pein seeing the pile of folded origami he took a seat behind her, using her back as support. Picking up one of many folded paper, he ask for what reason was she making so many of these birds for.
"There is a legend that states that if you fold thousand cranes and make a wish... it will come true." Konan replied softly as she finished yet another impeccable origami crane.
"Is that so? And what kind of fruits do these birds bare?" Pein asked as the crane in his hand came to life and began pecking at his fingers lovingly.
"Various things I suppose. Wealth, fortune, luck, wine, health,... love." The last in the list being heavily laced with detachment in her voice.
"Hm." Tossing the folded bird back into the stack of its siblings, Pein rose from where he sat and walked onto the terrace of the apartment over looking the city. Without turning around, he asked her, "And what is it that you are wishing for, Konan? Fortune? Health?...Love??
She stopped half way through making a wing on her current crane and paused, thinking whether he was truly asking her in order to know what it was she so desired or if he was simply asking to be polite.
Finally she answered enigmatically, "Peace, Pein. I wish for peace and nothing more."
Scoffing at her absurd wish, Pein walked back inside and off-handedly asked, "How many have you finished?"
"9,561..." Pulling the wings apart from each other, Konan softly smiles at the crane that begins to flutter around her, "62."
"Impressive... that's more than the body count I have under my name."
"Ne?" Konan softly whispered as she slid another white squared sheet of paper from her sleeve.
