Chapter 1
It was perfectly white outside as parade came to a close. There had been threats of snow for days but Mother Nature had finally fulfilled her promise and unleashed the snow storm of the century the night before. Now everywhere you looked was blanketed with white.
Sam knew t was only a matter of time before city life turned it grey and dirty, he was dying to drive around in it before anyone else could.
He tuned back in just as the announcements were being wrapped up.
"Nash, you're on desk duty with Diaz... and McNally is partnered with Swarek. It's cold out there guys, so make sure you wrap up warm and if possible bring a flask of something hot with you. Be careful out there guys, snow and ice do strange things to people. Keep an eye out for accidents and vandalism. Remember: Serve and Protect... and try not to get frost bite." Frank concluded.
"Ready to go McNally?" Andy gazed up at Sam, slightly irked he'd interrupted her chat with Traci about last night's date with Jerry.
"Yeah, I just need to grab my coat from the locker room," she replied, motioning to Traci to come with her.
"Well we don't have all day; I'll go get the car warmed up." He huffed off, blowing into his hands to warm them before braving the elements.
Once they were in the 'safety' of the girl's locker room, Andy begged Traci to continue her story.
"Ok, so we're having dinner yeah? And he produces this small box. Naturally, my heart stopped for a second, I mean what's a girl to think in that situation? I mean, he cooks me dinner, we're eating it in front of a roaring fire, all romantic and such, and he produces a small box! I was so nervous I thought I was going to puke!"
"So what was in it?" asked Andy, hardly able to contain herself. "Was it an engagement ring?"
Traci laughed, "No! It wasn't... Now don't get me wrong, it's not as if I'm dying to get married or anything, but you can't help but get excited you know? I opened the box, holding my breath, and in it was a spare key to his house. We're not moving in together or anything but it's a positive sign you know? I think he's really comm -"
Andy's phone shrilled, cutting her off mid sentence.
"It's Sam," she explained. "I'd better go; we'll continue this later ok?" Beaming at her friend, Andy grabbed her coat and ran out the door to her waiting partner.
"What was the hold up?" Sam asked as she practically bounced into the car.
"Oh nothing," she smiled, brushing it off. "Just girl talk."
She was so happy Traci and Jerry had finally sorted thing out. Traci was so happy when she was with him, and she deserved to be happy.
"You're very smiley this morning," commented Sam.
"Am I not allowed be?" she retorted, grin widening.
"Oh by all means, be as happy as you wish! I'd just like to know what the cause is."
"Good things happening to good people Sam, good things happening to good people..."
Sam started, since when were they on first name terms while on duty? It wasn't that he didn't like it... He just wasn't expecting it.
He opened his mouth to reply when the radio crackled into life reporting a breaking and entering. Exchanging a look with one another, Andy accepted the call.
Their day of mayhem had begun.
