INSIDIOUS

He stared at the ugly black thread piercing his flesh, its crisscross keeping closed what had, just a short while ago, been a gaping wound. He wanted to pick at it, pluck at it, and undo every stitch to see again what lay beneath. His penance.
Lips pursed in concentration, Dean began pulling at the first tiny knot, fingers digging to find purchase. Dean never blinked as a bloom of blood quickly welled and trickled down his arm. A slight curl pulled at his upper lip.
"Dean! What the hell?!" Sam's strong hand slammed down pinning his brother's busy fingers.
A violent shudder rocked through Dean. His startled gaze locked on Sam's face, his eyes wide and filled with incomprehension.
"Dean, what the hell were you doing?"
"I…uh…I…" Dean's gaze dropped to their blood-streaked commingled hands. For a split second, his pinned fingers twitched as if desperate to continue their destruction. He swallowed hard, gaze flying again to Sam's face. "I…don't know."
Sam's stomach clenched. There was complete innocence in Dean's green eyes, but it was fouled by just a flicker of preternatural slyness. It was Sam's turn to swallow hard. He cleared his throat. "Let's get you fixed up."
