IT WAS NICE
DISCLAIMER: I obviously don't own Harry Potter. I own non of the characters except Joyce and Erissa, but they aren't that important, except for Joyce.
Looking back, it was nice. Not that they had died. I would never think that. But, looking back, it was nice. Their deaths were painless, I guess that's a mercy. I wish they hadn't died. Their bodies were left on the scene. That's a good thing too, in a way.
Sirius was the first to know. He had rigged an alarm at all of our houses. If an unwanted visitor should come it sounded. I wasn't at home to hear it go off in my house. Peter, of course knew it was happening. Although he lived with me at the time he had made an excuse not to be there when they got to Lily and James's house. Sirius was at home and heard the alarm. First he came to our house. He never guessed that Peter would betray James and Lily. But he didn't see anyone. He headed to James's house, and took baby Harry from the dead house of his parents. He made sure Harry was safe with Hagrid and Dumbledor and Found me and rushed off to find me. At least, that's what I've been told. I didn't see Peter for many years after that, not until I became a teacher.
I helped pull the bodies of Lily and James out of the house. We had them cremated. The ashes of each were scattered to the wind, as James requested. We had discussed it only a week prior to their deaths. James had said "If I die in this War I want to be cremated. I want you to scatter my ashes into the wind over a cliff so that they blend into the air and when my son breaths I am always with him." Lily had said that he was being morbid and baby Harry had yelled "Mahgt" which must have meant something, but I don't know what. We all laughed.
When we went to scatter the ashes Sirius did the honors. It was Sirius, Me, Dumbledor, Lily's friends from school Joyce and Erissa, and Lily's Sister Petunia.
"James asked Remus and I to scatter his ashes if he died, and Lily called him Morbid. It's one of the last fond memories we had. I think that although Lily didn't want to admit it, she felt the same, because of James's reasoning. He wanted to be present in the air that his son breathed so that he would know he was there, with Harry, always." Sirius prepared to dump the ashes, but Joyce stopped him. She took a pair of scissors and cut her own jacket into a bunch of square pieces. She took the ashes and put a small mound of them on each piece. And then tied them up. She handed each of us two sachets of ashes. Ashes from Lily in one, and Ashes from James in the other. She handed another two sachets to Sirius and told them that he was to give them to Harry when he was older.
"You can do what you want with the ashes. Dump them over the cliff with the rest if you want. I don't care, they are yours." She told us. No one moved. We all wanted to keep the ashes.
"James." Sirius said a few moments later and began to slowly pour the ashes over the edge, as a breeze picked up. I watched him open his mouth as if to say something about James, but closed it, and we all watched the ashes float down towards the ground and disperse in the wind.
He held the ashes of Lily out to Petunia who nodded and took them. She actually spoke. "Lily, I always showed hate towards you, ever since you were 11. I was a little jealous, but mostly mad that you were gone all year. It was easier to call you a freak then tell you I missed your company. I guess I was a bad sister, but your magic really scared me." She dumped the ashes down after James's.
Tomorrow I give Harry his sachets.
Looking back, it was nice. Not that they had died. I would never think that. But, looking backā¦it was nice.
