Disclaimer: This'll probably be more incoherent then not, 'cause I'm getting really sleepy, but it won't leave me alone. T.T Save me. I don't own what I don't own, so don't try and go think that I…wait…I'm confused. Anyways, you get what I meant, don't you? The title's kinda iffy, but as I said, sleep is coming. Oo I'll probably end up making this all nice and beautiful like later.

Duty—A Rekka No Ken Fanfiction

By Forever3330

            It tore.

All his heart was to one side, one choice—

But then his mind was in the other and his loyalties so split—

And time was stopped, and yet it ran on.

It was ironic. How just the other day, or a few years ago, he didn't really remember anymore, Sain had said his sense of duty would be his downfall, his loyalty his death.

            It was and it wasn't.

Death was always there, though, when you were one such as he. It was war. Death was always there, to lull and tease, to call them off and let them go and lurk.

He'd give his life for his duty.

But his life was his life.

            It wasn't another life.

It wasn't a life that meant more then his own.

But did that life…did it mean more then duty?

He wanted, for once, to be selfish.

To choose the path that would lead to chaos, to go against the duty, the ever-scathing duty.

But he couldn't, could he? He was bound.

Bound by law, by duty. What had either done for him? Bound by expectations.

Expectations had stopped him from doing anything his heart needed.

            Duty kept him standing straight.

But now, why did duty have him bent? Why did duty have him cradling gently, ever gently, a body dead for hours now?

He'd made the choice, after all.

It was his fault, as it would have been either way.

His Lady or his love. His duty or his heart.

But Kent had always been too tightly bound to duty.

And even now, he continued to be as such.

            "Sain…"

And it was red, the death of hope.
