Disclaimer: I dun own the characters in the Phantom Stallion serious. Terri Farley does.
Apparently I enjoy writing sad stories. XD

Samantha Forster walked across River Bend's large ranch yard. In her hand she carried a bag of carrots and a soft red halter.
Finally reaching the banks of the La Charla River, she approached the large rock where she had mounted on to the Phantom's back countless times over the years.
She brushed a hand over the inscription engraved on the stone.
Even though you don't run across the plaiya any longer, you still gallop strong and free in the memories of my heart.

You will never be forgotten by your beloved Sam.
As she read, tears welled up in her eyes. Even though it had been years since that fateful April day, Sam wouldn't-couldn't forget about it.
As the tears started falling from her eyes, she felt strong arms wrap around her waist.
Sam smelled sagebrush, smokiness that came from being around a wood burning stove, and something else. Sweet, yet spicy at the same time.
Carrots and halter forgotten, she turned and flung her arms around Jake Ely's neck. Tears now falling fast.
"Jake . . ." She whispered.
"Hey Brat." He mumbled, just as silent.
Jake hesitantly wrapped his arms around her, letting her bury her head in his neck. Now wasn't the time to be squeamish about shows of affection.
Same felt something fall on her nose, and it wasn't a tear. The rain started falling faster, but still the two stood together by the babbling river.
"Jake, why does it always rain so much in April?"
"It's crying Brat." Sam sighed.
"Why is it crying?" She leaned back to look at his face.
"It's crying for all the things that didn't make it through the winter to see spring."
Sam turned her face Heavenward, and let April's Tears mix with her own.
