My Courage
"Alicia?"
That voice...I know that voice...Rufus...
The Valkyrie turned around slowly to face the young man who had obviously called out to her.
'Can I say goodbye?' Alicia questioned softly, almost afraid that they would refuse.
'Yes.' Silmeria answered in a warm voice, while she felt Hrist and Lenneth's agreement.
Valkyrie's golden orbs slowly changed back in to Alicia's saphire blue.
'This is it...' Alicia thought sadly, gazing longingly at the man she had come to admire, to respect, to love.'This is the end.'
She gently raised her left hand towards her face, her blue eyes never leaving Rufus's emerald green ones.
'I've always lacked courage. Always been scared and afraid of the world. I always let Silmeria fight for me...' She thought, as her limb drew closer while Rufus watched her intently.'There were times when I thought I had found it, but that wasn't the case because it took me a long time to realize what true courage even was...Saving Dipan, wasn't enough to find it...Travelling the world, battling all sorts of monsters, evading the gods, attempting to prevent a war, was never enough to find it...Risking everything to be of use, to help Rufus, to be with Rufus...wasn't enough to find my courage.'
Alicia smiled at Rufus and softly kissed his ring, hoping that simple gesture would convey all her feelings for him. That he would understand.
'...I love you...'
She began to fade.
'Sacrificing my life for the future...For hope...That was enough...'
Closing her eyes, she disappeared.
'...I found true courage at the end...'
