This bright little blurb is told from Kagome's point of view. There is no pairing, fully set after the series in the present, and details a young Souta's first Junior Cotillion preparation. High in humor, low in depression, 389 words of Kagome and her family. Enjoy!
I do not own Inuyasha, the wonderful Rumiko Takahashi does.
I could barely hold in my laughter. It was a miracle I could even laugh after everything, really. But I held it in. My eyes probably gave it away a little, but I really did try.
Souta, charming, annoying, manner-less, always means well, a little misunderstood, trouble-prone, little Souta was being dressed and marched off to Junior Cotillion.
Served him right, Kagome supposed. Though she felt a little sorry that she had been missing for a number of rather vital years that would have helped him grow into a bit more of a gentleman. He really was a little monster.
The image of him in a neatly pressed dress-shirt, belt, dress socks, dress shoes, and slacks really messed with her head.
As she heard the noises of him having a verbal match with their mother while she wrestled him into the clothing he so despised, Kagome felt another bubble of laughter threaten to burst.
She was so glad she was headed out to work in half-an hour. It gave her a valid excuse not to be in the same room as the protesting boy. Which further prevented the ever-persistent urge to snicker from breaking out.
It was almost worse than imagining Inuyasha doing the same thing. Only Inuyasha had needed it far more than Souta.
She sat in her room, fastening her belt and locating her socks, safely away from the dangerous temptation to break his ego by laughing. Kagome really did love Souta, but this was too much, so she safely cornered herself away from such a dangerous situation.
The sound of a door closing downstairs and voices from outside compelled her to look through her window.
Souta looked back at the house, and Kagome was gifted with a foreign sight: Souta was wearing a dress suit. Complete with jacket, slacks, shoes, socks, shirt... everything. And his glowering face put the cherry on top.
Kagome bit her hand until they were down the stairs and in the car, and then she could no longer bear it. Howls of laughter pierced the sky above the Shrine Maiden's home, and startled the birds out of the God Tree. The laughter didn't stop until Kagome was also in her car, driving to her work, and wiping the tears of laughter from her face. Kami, who knew laughing could hurt so bad?
General description of this story-type:: Each series that I write a short story for will be organized in a main story titled 'series name' + drabble ((ex. Inuyasha Drabble)). Each series' first chapter will include an Author Note at the Bottom of the page including a short description of subsequent chapters ((i.e. pairing, genre, setting, AU/Can, Rating)) listed in order of appearance. Each chapter will include a summary at the Top of the page, including any relation to other chapters in that drabble set. I am taking small requests/challenges for this category to fill my time. The requirements of such are: the submission must be non-erotic, and in a series listed anywhere on my known profiles (naturally, the more I like a series, the better the short story will be).
How's that? There are no current subsequent chapters in this story. Check back here when a new chapter is up for [meta]details on content!
